VFX BREAKDOWN & FRAMES
In “Talking About Me,” I combined AI techniques with traditional 3D rendering, modeling, and animation to achieve fast, controlled, and realistic results. For the vulture shots, I used a rigged 3D griffon vulture, matched the shot cameras, and procedurally placed multiple vultures above the singer in Houdini. By rendering different poses and parameter variations as first frames, I created a wide range of compositions, then animated the frozen singer-and-vulture frames with Wan 2.2, keyed the vultures with SAM-3, and composited them back into the footage. This allowed for rapid iteration and believable creature shots without needing a dedicated creature animator.
I also created the eye-tunnel shot by procedurally modeling a vent tunnel in Houdini and animating the camera through it into the eye. Since the director did not provide a close-up eye shot, I used SeedVR2 to upscale a pixelated crop from the original footage, enabling a smooth transition from the distant eye into the close-up and then into the tunnel.
